There are two types of Instant testing Urine or Saliva.
While saliva testing may seem easier to administer. It’s important to note that drugs only stay in a person’s saliva for 24 hours or less, while drugs remain in a person’s urine 24-72 Hours except for Marijuana which has a detection period of 7 days to 11 weeks.
Instant Urine testing can provide results in minutes of collection. This allows you to know right away if a potential employee or current employee passes a test. The instant test is less costly than a lab test.
Disadvantages to an instant test are, the results are only pass-fail. So a failed test should be verified by a lab. An instant test is not normally admissible in a court of law.
Offers standard procedures and cut off levels. The levels are designed to protect employees from such events of passive inhalation. By using the standard recognized protocols, there is less risk of a legal challenge and strong long-term evidence that stands to this assumption.
A medical review officer can review medications that an employee has a valid prescription and rule out as a positive test.
The disadvantage of lab testing is that it can take 24 hrs. - 5 days to get the results.
